NY-Jefferson County S.P.C.A.-sow

Jefferson County S.P.C.A. is a great shelter, from what I've read. They are the only no-kill shelter in the area, and they are the only shelter to accept cats in Jefferson County. That's crazy! That's completely incomprehensible to me. The homeless animal population must be out of control in Jefferson County.

LISTING REMOVED. Of particular relevance to this site is their adult sow, Chicklette. She's a small, social girl who loves to be held and pet. She's very sweet and likes to be talked to, but isn't that vocal herself.

PA-Judge's Park

I've posted about Judge's Park be-fore, to urge people to donate in this time of near universal need among East Coast rescues, plus commenting on how beautiful their guinea pigs are. Well this post is going to be a combination of both themes. Some of the Massachusetts guinea pigs are now available for adoption. When you look at these guinea pigs, please think about the situation they were raised in. Neglectful, inadequate, crammed conditions where the animals are multiplying but the already small space (a mere shed) stays the same. These guinea pigs are in need of a genuine forever home, and a promise to love and care for them through the end of their life. They have been through far too much already.

ADOPTED!! I LOVE TRISTAN AND WANT TO ADOPT HIM MYSELF. I have always wanted a little himi baby, but we've got a full house. I alternate between calculating how to get him and a new cage and an addition to my rent-to-rent apartment, and closing the page and thinking about my students loans. So, I BEG of you, loving cavy owners or owners-to-be. Adopt this boar! Please! Otherwise I will and then all I'll be able to eat for a week will be a box of Saltines and whatever Whole Foods sets out. Anyway, Tristan. He is a five month old sweetheart. He's a dominant guy on his way to being a cuddle-piggy. I beg of you, ADOPT HIM!

ADOPTED! Amber is a beautiful little teddy pig. She's thought to be a year and half old, and actually lucked her way in to joining the Judge's Park group--she was an owner surrender to the shelter, and wound up coming with the JPers. She is super sweet, likes to be held, and is really calm. She has to be adopted to a home with other females or a neutered male. She has a bald spot on her back. JP treated her for mites, so now they're keeping an eye on the spot to see if the hair will grow in. It might be dry skin or a scar though. It doesn't stop her from being a beautiful sow!

ADOPTED! Lucky Max sneaked his way into the Judge's Park posse. Though he was actually an owner surrender to the shelter, he wound up heading out with the hoarder guineas. He is a large silkie estimated to be a little over a year and a half old. Max is basically a perfect piggy. He likes to be held, he's vocal, and he loves a good petting. Max's only issue is that he's a chubby boy, and he needs to lose weight. I hate it when health issues get in the way of a perfect corpulant cavy!

ADOPTED! Oooh Oliver is a cutie. But this boy aint for sale! He's for adoption to a loving, loving home. He's six months old and a real sweetie. He can be skittish (understandable considering his upbringing), but the Judge's Park team is on the case. He is on a straight path toward lap piggie. Oliver is bonded with Ripley, which means you get to adopt two gorgeous abby boys at once!

ADOPTED! And here's Ripley, Oliver's other half. He's also six months old and very sweet. Though he can be a bit skittish too, he is destined for lap-piggiedom as well. He is malnourished, so he has a heavy regimen of veggies to follow.

ADOPTED! Rupert is a small baby boar, who is bonded with Sammy (pictured below). He is estimated to be four months old. Despite having to live his whole life in a hellish environment, he is a sweet sweetheart. He is also the director of Judge's Park favorite among them--and I bet she knows her guineas! He's a vocal, cuddly, kissy boy. He's malnourished and needs to do some growing. Since he's paired with Sammy, and Sammy can't go to young kids, Rupert can't go to a home with young children either.

ADOPTED! Sammy is a small young boar. He is a year old (est). Despite spending a year in such horrific conditions, Sammy is a sweetheart. He is a bit skittish at times, and can nip if feeling threatened, so he's not a good match for young kids. Sammy is malnourished and had to be treated for mites (all better). Sammy and Rupert are bonded, so they've got to go together. The home who gets the two of them will be a lucky home indeed.

NY-Beverly Animal Shelter-Many Guinea Pigs

Beverly Animal Shelter is located in Waterloo, NY. They have special programs to make adoptions possible for senior citizens, and an in-house grooming parlor! They also have a bunch of guinea pigs available for adoption. They aren't individually listed, but have one collective listing here. I wrote the shelter to see if this listing is still accurate, and t'is. I can't promise all the guinea pigs pictured are still there, but if this is a local shelter, remember they have guineas! Especially if you're thinking of buying a guinea pig. There are too many homeless cavies already.

PA-Lycoming County SPCA-sow

LISTING REMOVED. The Lycoming County SPCA in PA houses over 4,000 animals a year. One of their 2007 models, Mona Lisa, is a sweetheart available for adoption. Like her namesake, she has a mysterious beauty and no eyebrows. All her listing says is that she's a small adult sow. But look at the cute abby face!

Oh and see that hay roll behind her? No good. Guinea pigs can get their heads stuck in them, and even normally it's too much work for them to get the hay from between the bars. Look in to a hay rack or a hay loft.

PA-Piggie Lovers Inc. Guinea Pig Rescue

Piggie Lovers Inc. Guinea Pig Rescue has two new boys available for adoption!

The guinea pigs I'm about to post were not from Craigslist, but from a more definitively tragic source. LISTING REMOVED Hercules and Zeus are young bonded PEWs (pink eyed whites) who were rescued, with four other guinea pigs, from a testing lab. Though they weren't tested on themselves, they were due to be euthanized. A member of GuineaLynx posted about their endangerment and PLGPR got the piggies out. Hercules and Zeus are very special piggies. And as very special piggies they need very special adopters.

While they love hay, pellets, and water, they aren't yet eating veggies (an essential to a balanced guinea pig diet). They also aren't yet fully socialized to people. They do love to watch TV with you, and are calm and relaxed in their cage. They really deserve a forever home, and a commitment to care by their adopter. Could that adopter be you?

PLGPR has a bunch more guinea pigs to be posted, but I want to divide them in to multiple posts so they're not so long. And so you get an early peek at the a-dorable abby boy ADOPTED! Dilbert. He is around a year and a half old and very cute. He is a curious little guy who likes to explore. He is fine with being picked up though. Dilbert is a chubby boy too, which means whoever adopts him has to give him a lot of cuddles for me.
