PA-Wish list and piggie reminder for Judge's Park

If you've been following this blog for a while, you may remember a horrific hoarder crisis back in November--150 guinea pigs living in a shed were surrendered to a local animal shelter, who in turn enlisted the help of local rescues. Judge's Park was one such rescue to help, and even now they are feeling the strain of that effort. If you would like to help Judge's Park, there are three ways you can do so! One is a material donation, the second a financial donation, and the third is by adopting one of the poor piggie survivors of the hoarder crisis that have been waiting for a home since November. These pigs and other pigs who have been waiting for homes will be linked to below the wish list.

* To donate please contact the director of Judge's Park at Azeem0510 @ yahoo.com (remove spaces). You can also contact her about:

PA-Judge's Park-Many Pigs

Judge's Park, PA: Many Pigs! This rescue is located in Edinburg.

ADOPTED! Henry is a shorthair piggie bonded with Martin, and he is about a year old. The poor boy is a survivor of the hoarder surrender (150 pigs living in a shed under squalor conditions). Despite his initial conditions, he is a calm piggie who loves attention and has a great attention. Henry has some physical scars from living in such terrible conditions, but no other manifestations of his upbringing.

ADOPTED! Martin is one year old and absolutely gorgeous. He can be a bit skittish at first, and so will benefit from some more socialization in his forever home, but once he's in the lap he "is just a mush," to quote from his bio. Martin is bonded with Henry, and so the two boys must be adopted together.

ADOPTED! Nelson is a year old and "gorgeous and sweet to boot!!" Apparently this beautiful piggy loves to be held and adores cuddling. And Nelson embodies one of the rarest of piggy traits--he doesn't get along with other piggies. Nelson would do best as an only pig, leaving him plenty of time to curl up with his person.

ADOPTED! Rocket is a ten month old crested male. Due to his youth he is wonderfully high energy, though a bit skittish until in the lap. Once secure in your arms he is calm and adores to be pet. He will surely settle down as he gets older. Rocket must be adopted with Jet, his bonded buddy.

ADOPTED!Jett is a one year old boy who is bonded with Rocket. Between the two of them he is very much the calm one, though because of his young age he is still a bit skittish. The director of Judge's Park thinks that both pigs will grow up to be very calm, and says that they are very sweet boys even now. He loves to be pet onces in your lap.

Snickers is a one year old long haired Silkie pig. He is black and brown with one white foot. He is very high energy and can be a bit skittish (he may not have had much handling in the past), but this changes once he's in the lap. Then he becomes much calmer, and he loves to be held and pet. He should settle down with socialization and age. He is paired with Doodle, below, and is the calmer of the two. What a beautiful pair!

Doodle is a piggy with some roaning in his fur, which I recently wrote about in this post when discussing the dangers of br33ding roan pigs. Doodle is one year old, and more high energy than his other half, Snickers. He can be skittish and may not have had much handling before entering the rescue. He does calm down once being pet, but sometimes he still gets scared. Because of this, the rescue recommends he have a "gentle, quiet and patient handler." The rescue also recommends that ideally Snickers and Doodle (cute :) should "probably should go to a home with adults only or older/quiet children." Sounds like a smart plan for this pair.

Stay tuned for a follow up post on how you can help the guinea pigs of Judge's Park.

Boobits and Hagrid
are two bonded adult males. Boobits is on the left, and Hagrid is on the right; both pigs are around two and a half years old and big for any piggies age! PLGPR describes them as "adorable and chubby and...the perfect lap piggies." They both love being held and will lounge out and watch movies. They love to eat and never fight. They will call out for more food though!

Boobits is very curious and will get on his hind legs to sniff for food. PLGPR calls this Prarie Dogging, which I've never heard before and am now going to use all the time, because I love it.

Hagrid loves lady piggies, so I would make sure only spayed girls are in the house! He sounds like a persistant guy--climbing on pigloos even to get the best view of any lady pigs sauntering by during floor time.

These two pigs sound like wonderful snugglers and cuddlers and entertaining as well. What a perfect set of boys!

LISTING REMOVED. Thorndale, PA: A neat moment for me. This poster was originally offering the guinea pigs for free, and I sent him/her my form letter. S/he's now asking for $20 dollars and they revised the listing to include my letter. Cool! But, off the topic of my ego: two guinea pig brothers being rehomed due to a move (and some slightly too interested dogs). They come with a cage, food, cedar chips, and vitamin supplements (red=toxic and should not be used).

LISTING REMOVED. Selden, NY: Though I have sympathy for the poster of this ad, I don't think s/he is treating the guinea pig s/he is rehoming very fairly. Basically his bonded pair died, and the poster is so distraught s/he can't deal with losing another pet, so s/he is rehoming Truffles (remaining pig) on CL for a too small fee. Though s/he does have high standards for the adopter, Truffles may be going through a severe depression himself by losing his cagemate, and a more calculated rehoming than CL should be done in such a circumstance. Guinea pigs are capable of dying from depression, as they stop eating and drinking. If you adopt Truffles, please don't do so as a single pig.

Truffles is six months old, well socialized to people, and used to a C&C cage. The poster offers continued help after the adoption, which is a very generous of him or her. My condolences to the poster, but I encourage other people in his or her situation to use sites such as GuineaLynx, Guinea Pig Home, or Guinea Pig Adoption Network. These sites are better populated by guinea knowledgeable owners or will be owners.

ETA: My apologies, the poster is also utilizing these sites. I'm going to leave up the links however so other people can benefit from them.
