NY-EUTHANIZATION ALERT-DESPERATE CALL FOR HELP

PIGS ARE SAFE AND ALWAYS WERE! READ UPDATE here.

ONE DAY until fifteen guinea pigs in upstate New York are euthanized. Now that a college br33ding program has ended, the pigs are going to be killed on Wednesday, the twelfth of December.

Any help is desperately needed. Foster homes, adopters, financial or material donations, donations of time, transporting a pig to a safe home, etc.

All fifteen of these Pink Eyed Whites (PEW)s, though lab animals, have been handled daily and are friendly.

The school in question is SUNY Delhi, a small college in the Catskills Mountains of New York. Its website is here: http://www.delhi.edu.

For any questions or offers of help, please either leave a comment, email me at Adoptaguineapig @ gmail.com (remove spaces), or visit this thread on Guinea Lynx: here.

PA-Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue-Silver and Gold

NOTE: DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS AND THE LARGE NUMBER OF HAVE A HEART GUINEA PIGS, HAH ENTRIES WILL NO LONGER BE RETROACTIVELY UPDATED. MY APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS CAUSES. THE HAH WEBSITE WILL OFFER THE MOST UP TO DATE INFORMATION.

Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue is a great rescue which has piggies in foster homes in NJ, PA, and DE. I divide featuring their pigs up by state, and this post is for the PA boars and sows.

Apricot and Marigold are two new piggies to the PA herd. They're on pregnancy watch so they won't be available until early February. They were dumped at the local animal shelter because their owners no longer wanted them :( They are both gorgeous one year olds. Apricot is an orange and white American, and Marigold is an orange and white Peruvian.

Pops and Corn
have been with the rescue for a while, but I hadn't featured them individually yet. These kids were born in the rescue in August of 2006. Both boys are tri-color crested Americans. They are both used to dogs and cats, and they both are waiting for their forever home!

NJ-North Jersey Guinea Pig and Hamster Rescue Inc.-New and Old Pigs!

Due to increased time commitments, I am no longer going to be able to update past entries of some of the larger rescues such as Have-A-Heart and NJGPHR. Once a week or so I will update the herd of the respective rescues.

Two new piggies for the North Jersey Guinea Pig and Hamster Rescue Inc. herd! (And by the way, they're in need of bedding and foster homes--check out their page for more information).

Bobby and Solomon don't have pictures up yet, so I'm going to post their bios and then three piggies who do have photos and are NJ old timers.

Bobby is a large adult guinea guy, who is a very handsome orange, brown and white American. He's a one and a half year old boar. He can be adopted out as a single pet, but I bet he'd prefer to be a friend and guinea mentor to a lonely young boar. He was given up by a family that no longer wanted him. How could they not?

Solomon is a very cute boy. He is one and a half years old, and yellow, brown and white. Solomon has an age-old story; he was given up by a family because their children were no longer interested in him. Like Bobby, Solomon can go as a single piggie, or as a friend to a lonely young boar.

On to our documented photogenic piggies:
ADOPTED! Ethel, Lucy, and Robby.

ADOPTED! Ethel piggie is a newish girl to the herd. She is a year and a half old, and a lovely tri-color abby girl. She was given up because of asthma. She can go home with her mother, or be adopted to a home with a lonely female waiting on tip toes for a friend.

Lucy piggie is an adorable and big girl. She's two and a half years old, and a bold and confidant gal. She was given up because of asthma, and can be adopted with her daughter Ethel, or another friend in the rescue. Or she can be adopted to a home that already has a lady guinea waiting.

Robby piggie is a one and a half year old guy who was given up because his family traveled too much to care for him. He's a red American with a white face, and could be best paired with a submissive male or adopted out alone. I bet Robby would like the former option.

NY-Cavy Cages-Three guinea pigs

LISTING REMOVED Found these three over at the Guinea Pig Cages forum, found here. This is a great forum, affiliated with that Cavy Cages link I'm always pushing. And Cavy Cages is affiliated with Cavy Spirit!-a great informational website, as well as an excellent CA rescue.

On to the piggies:

In Orange County, NY three piggies are available to adoption because of allergies. Age, sex, disposition not specified. All I can share with you are the photos:

NY-Life Long Tails-Two Bonded, One Single

Life Long Tails has some lovely, charming new guinea pigs. A mother and daughter pair, and lil' baby girl!

ADOPTED! Margo and Mini Margo are the mother/daughter bonded pair, and they're very closely paired. And cute! Margo is under a year old, and Mini Margo is five months old. These vocal girls love their veggies, and will warm up to you once in the lap. Their owner gave them up when he or she was moving. Poor pigs! These two girls need a forever home this time.

ADOPTED! Squiggy (I love that name) is three months old and adorable. Poor girl was also given up because her owner moved away. She's a little skittish when first pulled out of her cage, but warms up soon. She is a cutie girl who adores being pet and loved on.

NJ-Craigslist-Two Listings

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Jersey City, NJ: Seven month old male needs a new home; is cutie. This ad really bugs me, the poster got her guinea pig from a pet store four months ago, and last night he started acting aggressive toward her other pig. She gave him just a day before deciding to rehome him, and advises against pairing the pig with any other, saying the pig should be kept in a cage by himself. So many things wrong with that. It's possible the guinea pig is just going through adolescence, or is suffering from a painful but easily treatable case of mites! Yeesh. Anyway, here's the cutie guy himself:

LISTING REMOVED. Kearny, NJ: Repost for cutie girl Dot. She's all white with a black head--be still my heart! She's friendly and comes with all her supplies for a very reasonable adoption fee.

PA-GPAN-Adult Sow

A new local listing on GPAN (Guinea Pig Adoption Network)!

Harmony is a tri-colored short hair girl who is two years old, and being rehomed because of allergy problems. She's a real cutie who comes with her cage, travel cage, dishes, water bottle, and other accessories. Her name makes her seem pretty serene!

NY-Guinea Pig Home-Young Boar

ADOPTED! By his own owner--Max's owner resolved her hay allergies and was able to keep Max!

New York, New Yoooooork: Such a cute boar boy available. I am head over heels for this guy, he looks adorable. Max is being rehomed because the poster suffers from very severe allergies caring for him. He's a very sweet guy who has lived alone since being in the poster's care, so the poster cannot make a definitive recommendation as to how he will get along with other piggies. But since he's a year old he's past the adolescent stage, which makes pairing easier. Doesn't sound like he's neutered. He comes iwth a cage, feeding accessories, and toys. He also needs a home by Dec. 20th. Rally round, guinea lovers!

POST DELETED. Hawthorne, NY: A repost of two very cute guinea pigs in need of a home. Ziggy is a three year old abby, and Daisy is a two year old short hair American. Ziggy takes a bit to warm up to you, while Daisy is a sweetheart right off the bat. They have a cage that might be useful for quarantine purposes, but isn't large enough by the standards outlined at Cavy Cages (link below). Adoption fee in the form of a donation to the local shelter. That's great! I really commend the poster for requiring that essential step.

PA-Furry Friends Guinea Pig Rescue

I love Furry Friends Guinea Pig Rescue! My beloved Sophie came from this rescue, and though I think she's the cutest piggie they'll ever have or have had, they still manage to have some winners. This is a home based rescue in Wallingford, PA. They are always in need of financial or material donations if you're unable to adopt but want to help, just see their website for details.

Meanwhile, here are three more of FFGPR's darling guinea pigs. Links to the whole gang provided at the bottom.

ADOPTED! Simon is a poor boy who thought he had found his forever home but was returned to the rescue. Kudos though to the person who honored the contract and returned Simon, instead of dumping him on CL or at a shelter (this happens far too often). Simon was born on 5/13/06 in the rescue, and he is a cute brown and white abby.

ADOPTED! Tabitha is a cutie girl. Her bio just says that she's young, and of medium build. She has two other really cute pictures, make sure to check them out. I had a hard time choosing just one!

ADOPTED! Bow is a neutered adult boar, bonded with ADOPTED! Cookie, an adult sow. Bow is two and a half years old, and such a cutie! He and Cookie came in to the rescue when their family could no longer care for them. Poor piggies!

NY-Craigslist-Two bonded boars

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Rochester, NY: Two bonded boars, thought to be around a year old, need a new home as their owner is going on a cross country bike tour*. Walter and Harry get along great. Walter is fiesty and Harry is "cute as a button." These adorable boars come with a cage, any left over food or bedding, and an exercise ball that should be immediately donated to a home with a hamster.

*It's always weird hearing an unconventional excuse for someone dumping their pets. Normally it's a) kids bored, b) allergies, c) new pet/baby, d) moving. Bike tour? Completely a new one for me.

PA-Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue

NOTE: DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS AND THE LARGE NUMBER OF HAVE A HEART GUINEA PIGS, HAH ENTRIES WILL NO LONGER BE RETROACTIVELY UPDATED. MY APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS CAUSES. THE HAH WEBSITE WILL OFFER THE MOST UP TO DATE INFORMATION.

Time for some more PA Have-A-Heart guinea pigs to get their 15 minutes. It's up to you to provide the rest--give one of these guinea dears a forever home! As a reminder, Have-A-Heart also has foster homes in New Jersey and Delaware.

LISTING REMOVED. Two Bit is a beautiful brown and white agouti boy. He's an adult who has been through a lot, and is a mild mannered guy who loves to lounge around. Once he hears veggies he's quick to snap in to action though!

GreyBee, Chalie, and Palomino are three boys new to the rescue. They're just babies, and came in from the local animal shelter. They were turned in with their mother because they were no longer wanted. They must be adopted together. They were born on 10/18/07, and are used to dogs and cats, and are super cute.

Chip is a dear boy who was born in the rescue in August. Of 2006! That's too long to not have a forever home. He's crested, and used to dogs and cats. He doesn't actually have red eyes, apparently that's just the photo. This guy is neutered.
