NJ-Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue-New pigs

NOTE: DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS AND THE LARGE NUMBER OF HAVE A HEART GUINEA PIGS, HAH ENTRIES WILL NO LONGER BE RETROACTIVELY UPDATED. MY APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS CAUSES. THE HAH WEBSITE WILL OFFER THE MOST UP TO DATE INFORMATION.

You know the drill. Three new NJ Have-A-Heart listings, three pigs who have been waiting for adoption for a while, and the rest of the herd at the bottom for your perusing privilege. Just a reminder--Have-A-Heart has foster homes in NJ, PA, and DE.

Phil and Buddy are bonded boys who just came to the rescue yesterday because their owner could no longer care for them due to allergies. They are very well cared for large adults who are used to cats, dogs, and kids. Phil is a blonde and white American boy who was born in August of 2005, and Buddy is a cute rust and white American boy who was born in April of 2004. Can't adopt them? These boys are in need of both foster homes and donations toward their neuters.

Levi is an amazing looking boy. He is seven months old and one of the coolest looking guinea pigs I've ever seen. He's been in the rescue since late September, and came there from the local shelter where he was given up because his owners no longer wanted him. Must have been bereft of the sight and touch senses then. He is used to cats, dogs and kids, and is accepting donations for his neuter.

Junior and Tiger are two bonded gals who also arrived at the rescue because their owner suffered from allergies. These well loved girls are used to cats, dogs, and kids. Junior is a cute white American and blonde and lemon agouti girl who was born in March of 2005, and Tiger is a cute tri-color American girl who was born in August 2005. Can't adopt these adorable girls? They're accepting donations for their spays, and they're looking for a foster home.

Lionel is an adorable neutered boy. Poor boy came to the rescue in late September from the animal shelter; his owners no longer wanted him. He's used to being around kids, cats, and dogs. This handsome young black abby needs a foster home.

Tina and Trina are poor bonded senior girls who thought they'd found their forever home, but sadly were returned due to no fault of their own. Their owners were moving overseas and didn't want to stress the girls out at their age--what a responsible and difficult decision. They are loved girls who are used to dogs, cats and kids. Both girls are tri-colored crested Americans; they sound beautiful. Trina was born in April of '03 and has a black bum, and Tina was born in December of 2002 and has a rust colored bum.

BeeBee has been in the rescue a month today, which shocks me as he's so cute! He was given up because of allergies, and is used to dogs and cats. This rust and white abby is nine months old. BeeBee is currently accepting donations for his neuter.

OH-Ohio Cavies Rescue and Adoption

NOTE: This organization, after five years of monumental contribution to the world of guinea rescue, has closed its doors. As a mere volunteer I thank the leader of the rescue for the inspiration of what an individual could do to help animals in need. But my thanks is nothing compared to all the happy wheeks of five years of homeless guineas taking that carrier trip to their forever home.

The last class of the Ohio Cavies Rescue and Adoption will be moving on to The Critter Corral in Chicago, IL. If you've fallen in love with one of the below photos, you must follow them to the windy city.

Hey, Ohio's near PA, right? Anyway, Ohio Cavies Rescue and Adoption is a great rescue that is closing it's doors after five years, and they have ten last rescue pigs to be adopted. If you fall in love with one of the piggies and are a qualified adopter, making the drive would be doing a great favor to them and to the woman who leads the rescue.

ADOPTED! Randy (L) and LISTING REMOVED. Rusty (R) are two bonded boars who were born in the rescue. Randy was born in November of 2004, and was adopted a year later, but then sadly returned to no fault of his own in 2007. He was returned with Rusty and they are very close; they love to eat together and share a pigloo. They're used to young children, being socialized, and are very well handled. Rusty is especially sweet and gentle.

ADOPTED! Amber is the lone girl available for adoption. She was born in January 2006 (est.), and is a beautiful red agouti and white short hair. She is a petite, sweet girl who can be a bit shy at first. She was removed from a petstore by animal control officers due to overcrowding and severe neglect. Poor girl!

ADOPTED! Rascal is a cute neutered boy, which means he can be adopted to a home with a lady pig. He was born in the rescue on 5/13/06 and he is a happy, laid back boy.

ADOPTED! Elliot (L) is a handsome red short hair born in approx. November 2005. He's bonded to dear ADOPTED! Isaac (R). Elliot is a very sweet guy who was dropped off at a local vet because his family was overwhelmed with guinea pigs. He can be a cute grumpy pig at times, but is generally very sweet and full of personality. Isaac came to the rescue in a sad state medically, but has been fixed right up by the caring rescue folk. He is one of my favorite pigs I've ever featured. This is such a handsome pair!

ADOPTED! Kody (L) is a cute teddy guinea pig who was born in the rescue on 5/20/06. His mom was bought to the rescue by humane officers from a very sad situation. Lucky Kody never had to know that life, but he hasn't known a forever home! Poor boy. He's a very personable boy who must be adopted with his friend ADOPTED! Jack (R). Jack was born in approximately January 2006, and he's another one of the pigs who came in from the petstore seize. He's a very sweet boy who gets along well with other boy pigs--especially Kody!

ADOPTED! Snickers (L) and ADOPTED! Pongo (R) are an opposites attract type pair. Snickers is a laid back boar who was born in the rescue on 5/13/06. He likes lap time and is always up for watching TV with you. Pongo is a cute guinea cow who is very high energy; he loves to run around as much he likes to cuddle.

NY-Craigslist-Two boars & four babies

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

POST DELETED. Manhattan, NY: Two ads for the same piggies, but they have different pics so I'm featuring them both. Two adorable seven month old boars, tricolor kiddos, and four babies, sex not specified, available in three weeks once weaned. Disclaimer at the bottom reassures me that this isn't a br33der, let me know if I'm wrong.

PA-Chester County SPCA-Four guinea pigs

Chester County SPCA in PA is, according to its website, the largest registered non-profit animal welfare organization in Chester County. Here's a page with information on volunteering at this shelter. They've got positions for people under the age of 18, so this could be a great opportunity to help homeless animals, and your college applications!

ADOPTED! Snowflake is a beautiful young sow, looking for a place to settle by winter. No Wire Floors! There's a bumblefoot danger. And Joan Crawford would not approve.

ADOPTED! Pickle is a small, young male, a new petfinder ad confirms it.

ADOPTED! Pepper is a smart looking small, young male, as confirmed by a new petfinder post.

ADOPTED! Kiara is a cute young abby girl.

816

PA-Jefferson County SPCA-Baby piggie

Jefferson County SPCA is the only no-kill shelter in the area, and they have an amazingly cute piggie available for adoption.

LISTING REMOVED. Bing is a baby pig who was listed as a girl when s/he was dropped off, but the shelter hasn't verified the sex yet. Oh, and s/he is adorable.

Here is a video of another Bing, a famous piggie who has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He has brought joy to thousands, and teaches some GP basics in an adorable, family friendly way.

812

NJ-Friends of Homeless Animals-two piggies

Friends of Homeless Animals is a foster based rescue in Northern NJ, and they have two new pigs available for adoption.

ADOPTED! Callie is a cute four month old sow. She is a crested calico who is very sweet.

ADOPTED! Daggott is a year old, neutered, multicolored texel guinea pig. So pretty much the perfect boy then? Can be paired with a girl, past adolescence, wow!

PA-Craigslist-Skinny Pig

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Philadelphia, PA: Of all the guinea pigs not to rehome on Craigslist, skinnies and baldwins probably top the list. A skinny being rehomed for reasonable adoption fee, can get cage for separate adoption fee. Uh oh. She looks young. The poster bought her from a petstore because the skinny was going to be fed to a sn@ke. Please read the link "social cause marketing below" to see a great summary of the problems with doing this.

PA-Tails of Hope Pet Adoptions-Two Pigs

Another confusing Petfinder listing. I'll leave it to those of you who fall in love with the picture to sort this out. Tails of Hope Pet Adoptions' Petfinder page links to Circle of Love Adoptions, so I guess they're going through a name change, not quite sure. If anyone knows what the story is I'll update this. But, on to the fun stuff: piggies!

This listing is for ADOPTED! "Morgan," but there are two piggies pictured and no sex specified. Do a pregnancy watch. They're described as tame and fun, and it goes without saying they're cuties:

808

PA-Humane Society of Somerset County-Two pigs

This post is a bit confusing to me, so double check with the shelter over the phone or in person about specifics.

The Humane Society of Somerset County has two piggie kids available for adoption. LISTING REMOVED. Mommy and Stewart are two pigs described as "female," but I've not known Stewart to be a female name. Maybe that's some north of the Mason-Dixon line business to which I'm not privy. Also, lol at this bio line, "we do not make any noise." Guess I don't have guinea pigs. Maybe some rare mammal bird. These two might not be making noise because they're scared...anyway, they're cute:

NY-Craigslist-Young Sow

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Upper East Side, NY: Young black sow (few months old) named Amy needs new home. She's very nice, doesn't bite, "would be good for a child and family." I see this so often. Why do people think single adults can't have pets? Poster is asking a negotiable rehoming fee of $100 to "reimburse what [she] ha[s] spent." Eff ensuring the pig's safety, she lost cash on this thing! Comes with "large" cage, water bottle, a bunch of other supplies.

PA-Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue-Two Boars

Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue located just outside of Pittsburgh, PA has two new boars available for adoption. And one of them is the biggest guinea pig in the world!

ADOPTED! Twix is roughly the size of Gamera and is working on a campaign against Hummers. He is a young gentleman piggy, and is black and red. Twix and Skittles are very bonded, and Twix is the more laid back of the two. Picture two of Twix:

ADOPTED! Skittles is a cute, precocious adorable piggy who is always on the watch for food. He is quite bonded with Twix, and is the more active of the two.

803

PA-Judge's Park-Four more GPs

Judge's Park is a great, small rescue that has a number of different species of animals available for adoption. They're always in need of help, so check out their link to see what you can do to help homeless animals in PA!

ADOPTED! Patches is a young girl thought to be born in May. Patches was evicted from her apartment by the landlord, and now she needs a forever home that allows her on the lease! She is very sweet, though more shy than her bonded friend, Jasmine. They are super skittish, but have gotten used to lap time and now love it. They need someone who will help them continue on their path to being cuddlers.

ADOPTED! Jasmine is an amazingly beautiful abby girl from the same background as Patches. She is a sweet, vocal, and curious girl. Still, she and Patches are getting over being skittish and their fear of humans, so they do need an adopter willing to give them time and patience.

ADOPTED! Caeser is a young, medium-sized boar who is almost all black with a few barely noticeable brown hairs. The rescue estimates his birth month as March of this year. He is a calm, quiet, laid back pig who loves to have his face rubbed. He must be adopted with Marcus.

ADOPTED! Marcus is a baby, just born in November of this year. He's reddish brown with white patches and a whorl on his face. As a baby he has had no handling, so he is very skittish with people and still needs tsome time to get used to them. He must be adopted with Caeser.

PA-Craigslist-Boar

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Scranton, PA: I have an ambivalent reaction to this ad. Poster took her sister's guinea pig when sister moved to an apartment that didn't allow guinea pigs, so the guinea pig didn't have to go to the SPCA. They're charging a suitable adoption fee for the pig and all his supplies (cagetoosmall). But they advocate giving the guinea pig to a child age five or up, with the perk of teaching the kid responsibility. I don't know how many pigs wind up neglected or rehomed because of this theory. Also, it worries me in general that shelters have such bad reps. Obviously it is not ideal, but good shelters have a quality screening process in place and a relationship with rescues. Every shelter is different though, and sometimes pigs can pick up germs or be scared by the other animals, etc. Alls I'm saying is if you're informed about the *small animal* euthanasia rate at your local shelter, it might not be the worst thing to surrender your animal there, versus passing them off blindly (not to say that's what this poster is doing). Anyway, look how cute!

NY-Lollypop Farm in Fairport-Three new pigs/Event

New members of the Lollypop Guild. Not much info here. Updates on the hour as this story develops! And please see the info on their upcoming events.

LISTING REMOVED. 3854035 is a small young boar. I think 8675309 would have been catchier.

LISTING REMOVED. Coco is an adult female medium sized piggie.

LISTING REMOVED. Katie Sam (?) is a young girl, small in stature.
