NY-Stevens-Swan of Oneida County Inc-Multiple young guinea pigs

Stevens-Swan of Oneida County Inc.; Utica, NY: LISTINGS REMOVED None of the guinea pigs have names, so I'm going to label them by appearance.

GUINEA PIG LESSON: Guinea pigs should be fed a high quality pellet, one without corn or colored pieces. Oxbow or Kleenmama's are examples of high quality pellets. Young guinea pigs (under one year) should be fed unlimited alfalfa based pellets. You will also see this cut off date at six months and in between. Adult guinea pigs should be fed 1/4th to 1/8th cup timothy based pellets daily (as opposed to unlimited, which can lead to obesity, reduce hay consumption and so lead to malocclusion, and some theorize it can increase the risk of stones in cavies already prone to stones).

LISTING REMOVED Lyons (Rochester), NY: Three female guinea pigs (two adults and one baby) being rehomed due to allergies. Cannot be separated. They have an excellent set up (though according to GuineaPigCages 2x5 is preferred for three pigs, lofts not included-something to consider for when baby grows up). Their 2X4 cubes and coroplast cage (C&C cage) comes with a stand, and the pigs also comes with their dishes, toys, and water bottles. This is a great set up, and these are adorable pigs.

LISTING REMOVED Levittown (Long Island), NY: Two six month old female guinea pigs being rehomed due to allergies. "SOO CUTE AND FRIENDLY."

LISTING REMOVED Bronx, NY: Two female guinea pigs being rehomed due to move. Come with cage, water bottle, food container, and other accessories. "Adorable...sweet, very friendly!" Elphie is black and white, very sweet, and a purring cuddler. Nessie is white and tan, active and an explorer.

LISTING REMOVED Syracuse, NY: Five month old long haired guinea pig male "Gunther" being rehomed due to move. Light and dark brown hair, white hair, pics available by request.

LISTING REMOVED Harlem/Morningside (Manhattan), NY: Two female guinea pigs (Zorro and Robin Hood) being rehomed due to temporary move. Girls are well behaved and bonded. Come with cage, accessories, bedding, timothy hay, some food, etc. Photo of Zorro doesn't accurately depict eyes. Poster wishes to visit pigs once after she returns to country "This is not only out of sentimentality, but also out of my desire to find them a SAFE, long-term home. I am upset that I was not able to provide them with a more stable home environment (they have been moved four times), and I am attempting to pass them on to someone who can do better."

LISTING REMOVED York, PA: Three males being rehomed due to missexing and herd ballooning out of control. One male is 10-11 months old, the others are the off-spring. The poster is also selling a cage, but opt for Cheaper, Larger Cages. The one in the ad is cruel for three males, they need even more space than three females (who need even more space than that cage!). Double check the sexing, as always.

LISTING REMOVED Manchester (York), PA: YARD SALE GUINEA PIG ON 6/20 & 21. As I said with our last yard sale guinea pig, this is just setting up for a disastrous impulse buy. 8 month old sweetheart male pictured below, comes with cage and half a bag of food and bedding (he needs a Cheaper, Larger Cage and a friend-Social Life ).

Do me a favor, dear reader, if you are near this neighborhood but aren't able to save the guinea pig yourself, could you print out and place a GuineaLynx Care Guide near the cage (with permission)? And make sure s/he's not out in the sun? If the guinea pig is, try and convince the owners to put him inside, perhaps with a sign saying there's a guinea pig indoors. Failing that, move piggy into the shade.

LISTING REMOVED Levittown (Philadelphia), PA: Two female guinea pigs being rehomed, can be adopted together or separately. Typical story and parental reaction, "MY KIDS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE TERRIFIC TO HAVE THESE AND DO NOT WANT TO CLEAN UP AFTER THEM, SO THEY ARE NO LONGER GETTING THE CHANCE." This is why parents must commit to being the primary caretakers of any pets, and prepare to be the sole caretakers.

LISTING REMOVED Reading, PA: Two female guinea pigs (and three rabbits, should not be housed together) being rehomed with cage and accessories due to move.

LISTING REMOVED Lancaster, PA: Beautiful Bella! Two year old female guinea pig named Bella being rehomed due to allergies. Poster clearly loves her pig and has had her since she was a baby. Bella "loves to be out of her cage and play." She comes with her cage, treats, food, and water bottle. Guinea pigs' average lifespan is 5-7, 9+, oldest lived to 12 years.

Putnam Animal Relief Center; Winfield, WV: LISTING REMOVED Rocko!

Rocko's petfinder ad represents numerous small animals at this shelter, so please, go in person and see the animals. This is a kill shelter. Charleston, WV: I've bemoaned this ad before, but it's been reposted. That means this guinea pig hasn't been picked up and is still being housed on TOXIC CEDAR BEDDING. Someone please adopt him and get him on Aspen, Kiln dried pine, Carefresh, or Boxo bedding. Read more about bedding here: Bedding. The pellets are also wrong, they shouldn't have any colored pieces or corn in them. Get this boy some Oxbow or Kleenmama's pellets and some HAY! (Is that what they mean by chew grass?)
