WV-Craigslist-Male in Charleston

*If responding to an ad by an individual, meet in a public place
or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

Charleston, WV: I've bemoaned this ad before, but it's been reposted. That means this guinea pig hasn't been picked up and is still being housed on TOXIC CEDAR BEDDING. Someone please adopt him and get him on Aspen, Kiln dried pine, Carefresh, or Boxo bedding. Read more about bedding here: Bedding. The pellets are also wrong, they shouldn't have any colored pieces or corn in them. Get this boy some Oxbow or Kleenmama's pellets and some HAY! (Is that what they mean by chew grass?) Get him a Cheaper, Larger Cage. Get him a nice loving home! Look how cute!

WV-Ritchie County Humane Society Inc.-Male/Female pair (Special Needs)

Ritchie County Humane Society Inc.; Harrisville, WV: Brownie and Indy!

Brownie is the crested girl and Indy is the boy. They're both young. Indy is the shyer of the two. They both enjoy being pet on their foreheads. Unless one of them is spayed or neutered, this warrants a PREGNANCY WATCH (GL link on reproduction).

Indy is showing signs of hair loss, most commonly due to mites, and so I've marked him special needs. He is a gorgeous Himalayan in the making though! Every new guinea pig should go to a Cavy Savvy Vet for a well visit, but Indy will definitely need one. Guinea Lynx provides a list of common mistakes in treatment here. Mites are a very common issue in guinea pig treatment.

More knowledge and GP fun galore are available at GuineaLynx.

Rescues and shelters need assistance paying for hoarder's crime

* * * CALL FOR HELP * * *

Like Judge's Park, The Critter Connection (a CT based rescue) is assisting in the rescue of the enormous MA guinea pig surrender. A hoarder who had become ill gave up around 150 cavies he had been keeping in his shed. They were in terrible condition, some blind. All of the females are assumed pregnant. That means that any rescue that takes in any of these pigs is going to have to cope with a huge increase in medical bills. You can help ease that burden by donating either time, supplies, a foster home, or finances. Judge's Park donation information is here and The Critter Connection donation information is here. (If I have missed any rescues who are assisting with this effort, please post them in the comments section, along with contact information).

There's also an individual (I e-know her from GuineaLynx) who at this very moment is driving from PA to MA to pick up thirty piggies. I've donated just ten dollars to her myself, and stacked against all the other donations, it made a difference. Just one dollar would even! The cost of just feeding thirty guinea pigs is going to make a huge dent in the wallet. Read information about her journey and the tremendous act of taking in the pigs here. You can find donation information in this thread, as well as more information on this case.

Here are some articles. One Two. The second link also gives you information on how to donate to the shelter.

PA/NJ/NY/WV-Craigslist Warning

WARNING if you decide to get a guinea pig from Craigslist, or respond to any ad on Craigslist, meet the poster in a public place, not on their own turf. In Minnesota a woman was murdered when responding to a Craigslist ad for a babysitter: link.

WV-HillHaven Animal Sanctuary Rescue

HillHaven Animal Sanctuary Rescue in Anmoore, WV is a private sanctuary for all types of animals. Have any extra scoopable cat litter? Send it to them; they're always in need. They're also in need of adopters for the two beautiful girls in their care.

Gabby and Gidget are great guinea pigs who like carrots (feed only sparingly) and fresh veggies (it's so sad when a guinea doesn't) and wheek away during supper time. The beautiful (one crested) girls are looking for a forever home!
