PA-Craigslist-Young Guinea Brothers

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Conshohocken, PA: I can sort of confidently say that these piggies would be good for someone who has learned about piggies, but has not had them yet (and of course for guinea experts). Two cute short-hair piggie brothers, 8-10 months old, available for adoption due to a move. Fantastically, they come with a C&C cage and other accessories. These cute babies look like they've been pampered, and they need to continue on in their next home (forever home, if you please).

NJ-Companion Critters-Three piggies from sad situation

Companion Critters is a NJ based rescue that's been around since 2000. Their sole purpose is to save animals in shelters from being euthanized--they often have to choose which animals to save from death row. I don't envy that decision making. They have three guinea pigs posted at the moment who came from a tragic hoarding situation. 116 animals were saved from this hoarder. Some photos of the hoarder's residence can be seen here.

WITH A RESCUE! Rusty is a handsome red Satin adult male, small in stature. He weighs 1.5 pounds (so tiny!) and a vet has said he appears to be in good health. He also appears to be good looking! (Was that weird?)

WITH A RESCUE! Moe is a cutie-boy quite similar to a pig I fell in love with over on the original blog. He is a small adult male short-hair who weighs 2.3 pounds. Petite piggy, but nothing compared to Rusty!

WITH A RESCUE! Flower is a beautiful Peruvian girl who weighs two pounds. Like the others, she has been assessed by a vet and is presumed to be in good health. Pretty lucky, if you looked at the photos.

NY-Tompkins County SPCA-EIGHT frickin' pigs!

Tompkins County SPCA in Ithaca, NY has eight, count em, eight guinea pigs for adoption. They're not up on the website, but one of the animal heroes over at GuineaLynx got an email about them.

Here's what is known: there are four girls and four boys. All abbys. One girl has a crazy hairdo like a mohawk down her back. Almost all of them are TSWs (patches of black, red and white), but one of the males might be a lilac red and white. They are thought to be 3-5 months old.

All the males are currently adoptable. The girls are all on pregnancy watch and can't be adopted yet because of that. The poor girls are living in the bathroom of the SPCA's rescue building (blame the sources of the homeless animal population, not the shelter)

They need fosterers, donations, and people to adopt these adorable young boars! And people to adopt the sows in two months--and maybe some cute little babies.

Oh have I forgotten to post how they got to the shelter? Apparently they were "strays" some folks found in their backyard, then brought to the shelter. Either someone threw them in to their yard (this happens way too often), or some folks aren't telling the truth.

PA-Bucks County SPCA-Two piggies

Two new piggies at the Bucks County SPCA! And these girls are quite cute.

LISTING REMOVED. Lana is an eight month old tri-color crested piggy girl. She is very friendly, but could use some work on people socialization. The shelter says she would do well with responsible children, but I would add the caveat for older responsible children. Sometimes younger kids don't have large enough hands for the wriggly pigs.

LISTING REMOVED. Caramel has the same bio, so please see above. And please see below, she's cute!

PA-Craigslist-Impulse boy needs well prepared home

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

FLAGGED FOR REMOVAL. Philadelphia, PA: Nine month old adorable crested tri-color piggie (black, white and tan) needs a new home. He is a very sweet boy who is "not getting the attention he needs." Comes with cage, food bowl, water bottle, pigloo, and any extra food and bedding that is left at time of adoption. Oh and he was an impulse buy who wasn't compatible with the college life style. Does that mean I can blame dropping out on my pigs? I'd love to get my family/society off my back.

NJ-Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue-Tons of new pigs!

NOTE: DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS AND THE LARGE NUMBER OF HAVE A HEART GUINEA PIGS, HAH ENTRIES WILL NO LONGER BE RETROACTIVELY UPDATED. MY APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS CAUSES. THE HAH WEBSITE WILL OFFER THE MOST UP TO DATE INFORMATION.

Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue has a ton of new guinea pigs. Below I've featured a number of new and old New Jersey guinea pigs, then listed all the NJ pigs at the bottom. Have-A-Heart has foster homes in NJ, PA, and DE. They are always looking for new foster homes and donations, material and financial.

Janet and Chrissy are cute three year old girls who came in to the rescue because of allergies. They are used to dogs and cats. Janey is a black self (pretty), and Chrissy is a lemon agouti and blonde American. These girls need a foster home! If you can't foster, why not donate toward getting them spayed? The overpopulation problem will thank you, as will the girls--spaying and neutering GPs has long term health benefits.

Pretty boy Richie has been in the rescue since September! That's too long without a forever home, and I can only attribute his non-adoption to the overpopulation problem (fueled by br33ders and petstores), because this guy is adorable. He came in to the rescue from his local shelter, where he was dropped off because his owners no longer wanted him. Poor Richie! He is used to being around kids, cats, and dogs. Richie is a rust and brown agouti American, and thanks to a generous donor, the rescue was able to have him neutered!

Ginny, Nutcracker, Brownbear and Wolverina
, first off, have amazing names. Love it. They were surrendered because of allergies, and they are all used to dogs, cats, and kids. They must be adopted in pairs. Ginny and Nutcracker are three years old--Ginny is a rust and white abby, and Nutcracker is a chocolate, white and black abby (sounds so cute!). Brownbear and Wolverina are both two years old--Brownbear is a chocolate and rust American, and Wolverina is a chocolate, rust and black abby. Sounds like a cute matching pair! They also need donations for spays.

ADOPTED! Coconut has been in the rescue since mid-November, when he was given up because of allergies. He is used to cats, dogs, and kiddies. He is in a classroom foster home--wow, I've never heard of that before! He is a cutie rust and black abby who is now nine months of age. Coconut is accepting donations toward his neuter, though he might not be too happy about it.

Toodle, Maze and May are a bonded trio who must be adopted together. They are on pregnancy watch in to the first week of February as they were housed with males before coming in to the rescue. Their owner could no longer care for them so they came to the rescue. Toodle, Maze and May are used to kitties and doggos. Toodle-Poodle is a year and a half old, and is a cute chocolate, blonde and white American. Maze and May are young pups at four months old--they are both black, blonde and white Americans. They also need donations for spays.

Piper is an adorable tri-color crested boy who is about six and a half months old. He's been in the rescue since September--time for a forever home! He is used to kids, cats, and dogs. The poor guy was listed as "fr33 to a good home" at a local feed store. He is incredibly lucky to be with such a good rescue. Piper is accepting donations toward his neuter.

Puff and Deamo are a bonded pair who must be adopted together. These boys were given up to the rescue because their owner could no longer care for them, and they are used to cats and dogs. Puff is a year old, and Deamo is four months old. They are both black, white and blonde Americans. And they need foster homes! Can't foster? Why not make a donation toward their neuters?

Harley and Edwin are adorable guys who must be adopted together. Poor boy have been in the rescue since May! They came to the rescue from a local animal shelter, where they were turned in because they were no longer wanted. Have you seen their picture? I don't get it. Harley is the adorable tri-color American on the left, and Edwin is the rust and white abby on the right. They're both young and used to cats and dogs. You can donate toward their neuters--even if Harley and Edwin won't thank you, the rescue and their adopters will!

ADOPTED! Nelson is a loner boy who doesn't want to be alone for long! He must be adopted to a home with a piggie friend waiting for him. Nelson is a baby boy, just one month old, and he is already used to dogs and cats. He is a black and white American mix, and he needs a foster home! If you can't foster this cutie, why not make a donation toward his neuter?

NY-Craigslist-Guinea Boar

LISTING REMOVED. St. Lawrence County, NY: Piggy boy Clarence needs a new home because his owners are moving. He's used to kids and is very cute and gentle. He is mostly white with some black. Contact the owners for details. And if you're thinking of moving, and believe you can't bring your piggy with you, but would if you could--register on GuineaLynx or Guinea Pig Home and ask for tips. For example, with an approved carrier you can bring a GP with you on a Delta flight.

NJ-Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue-New Piggies!

Have-A-Heart has new piggies! Here are the latest additions to their NJ herd. As a reminder, Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue has foster homes in PA, NJ, and DE. They're always welcome to donations and more foster homes. Even if you can foster just one piggie, that makes a difference! Especially to that one pig.

Alex and Grover
are adorably named. I think I actually recognize them from the shelter guineas in this post. How lucky they were to wind up with the rescue! They are familiar with cats, dogs, and kids. They are both so spectacular looking!

Doozer and Jake are senior boys, who have had a hard time of it. They were adopted three years ago, but just recently returned. Their owner's child lost interest in them. Another argument against guinea pigs being adopted as pets for children. They are used to being around cats, dogs and kids. Doozer is four and a half years old, and is a cute brown and white agouti. Jake is also four and a half years old, and is a cute brown and black abby. It will be a special, loving person and adopter to welcome these pigs in to their real forever home.

Jolene has been in the rescue since late September. She came to the rescue from the local animal shelter; her owners turned her in because they no longer wanted her--poor girl! This young girl is a lemon agouti, blonde and white American. She is used to being around dogs and cats.

ADOPTED! Sweetie Pie is a three and half year old boar who was given up because his owner got bored with him. That says more about the owner than the guinea pig, trust me. He is a white and brown agouti, rust abby. Sweetie Pie is used to being around cats, dogs, and kids.

And for the fun of it I'm going to feature some girls who have already been in the rescue for a few months waiting for a home. Dorothy and Mia are such beautiful girls. They've been in the rescue since late September of this year, and they were given up because their owners could no longer care for them. They are used to being around dogs and cats. Dorothy is the pretty gal on the left, and Mia is the lovely crested girl on the right. They are both just a year and a month old.

UPDATE ON NY EUTH RISKS-Safe!

Well, it's looking like the NYGP15 were actually not in danger. People were working on little information, much of it inaccurate. I of course subscribe to the idea of "planning for the worst and hoping for the best" when it comes to animal safety, and so I don't feel like anyone made a mistake--if the guinea pigs actually were in danger, and the time frame was extremely limited, this would have been right to publicize. But as it turned out to be inaccurate, I apologize to the Veterinary Department, both staff and students, for this error. I do not discourage people in the future from notifying me, or very preferably, their local animal rescue, animal control, USDA division, or the appropriate party about any endangered animals.

Below is the email I received from the chair of the Veterinary Sciences department. I'm reprinting it in full, unmodified (unless indicated by brackets, and then solely for googling purposes), so as to rectify the false press I gave the department.

"To all concerned individuals:

"I appreciate your concern for the well being of the Guinea Pigs in our animal colony and your interest in finding appropriate homes for the animals which are no longer needed for our Veterinary Technology classes at SUNY-Delhi during the Fall semester. As stated in your web-site, we are also concerned with the placement of animals in healthy caring environments and avoiding animals being acquired and kept in poor conditions. As a result, the Veterinary Technology Program at Delhi has an adoption program which has been approved by our Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee which involves the submission of an Adoption Application for review by appropriate department personnel before animals leave our facility.

"As stated in the correspondences which are listed through the web-site, the Veterinary Technology Departments Br[33]ding Colony Management course does have some guinea pigs available for adoption. These animals have been cared for by students in this class which is coming to an end with the end of the semester. We need to maintain animals for use in, or to produce animals for, classes being offered during the Spring,'08 semester. The "surplus" guinea pigs are available for adoption to approved individuals. We want to insure that these animals are placed with individuals or families who will provide a safe and healthy environment to meet the animals well being.

"Over the past several weeks the students in the Br[33]ding Colony Management course have been preparing an adoption program for these animals - many of them have already been spoken for. The students have edited the Adoption Application form to meet the specific needs of this species. They have prepared a Guinea Pig Care Guide for these pets so that the new owners will be aware of their needs and information appropriate to Guinea Pig ownership. They are also prepared to provide the new owners with "starter kits" with food and bedding, and supply them with a transport box so that the transition to their new home produces as little trauma as possible. For those animals which do not have homes secured, the students in the class will be promoting adoption at the Vet Tech student organizations - NYSAVT, holiday activity - Pet Pictures with Santa, being held on Wednesday evening. Interested families may see the Guinea Pigs who are available for adoption, complete an Adoption Application, and if approved, take the animals with them along with the materials provided for their care by the students. If the new owners are not prepared to take their new pet at that time, we will hold them until they can provide them with an appropriate living environment.

"The on-campus "contact person", nor anyone else who is concerned about these animals, has not made much effort to contact anyone who is "in charge" of these animals. Both myself and the principle instructor for the course have e-mail addresses and phone numbers which are published on the colleges web-site. I check both of these systems regularly, including throughout the weekend. All of our animals are cared for at least daily, including weekends and holidays. We try to impress upon our students that the care of the animals takes priority over all other personal activities. The well being of all of the animals in our facility is paramount to all the members of the Veterinary Technology Program!

"Anyone who is interested in information about the Guinea Pigs which are available for adoption and submitting an Adoption Application may contact me (unfortunately I do not have an Adoption Application file which I can attach to this e-mail). If you have any questions about this matter or would like information about Delhi's Veterinary Technology Program, please feel fr[33] to contact me. Although I have a full day of classes on Wednesday, I will make every effort to respond as soon as possible during this very busy last week of classes.

"Again, I appreciate your concern about these animals, we would also like to have these animals adopted to caring homes.

"Sincerely,

[first name removed]. Franks, LVT LATG

Associate Professor and Department Chair

Veterinary Science Technology Department

State University of New York

Delhi, New York 13753"

Email and first name withheld due to spambots, but if you would like to contact Prof. Franks his information is available at the school's website.
