OH-Ohio Cavies Rescue and Adoption

NOTE: This organization, after five years of monumental contribution to the world of guinea rescue, has closed its doors. As a mere volunteer I thank the leader of the rescue for the inspiration of what an individual could do to help animals in need. But my thanks is nothing compared to all the happy wheeks of five years of homeless guineas taking that carrier trip to their forever home.

The last class of the Ohio Cavies Rescue and Adoption will be moving on to The Critter Corral in Chicago, IL. If you've fallen in love with one of the below photos, you must follow them to the windy city.

Hey, Ohio's near PA, right? Anyway, Ohio Cavies Rescue and Adoption is a great rescue that is closing it's doors after five years, and they have ten last rescue pigs to be adopted. If you fall in love with one of the piggies and are a qualified adopter, making the drive would be doing a great favor to them and to the woman who leads the rescue.

ADOPTED! Randy (L) and LISTING REMOVED. Rusty (R) are two bonded boars who were born in the rescue. Randy was born in November of 2004, and was adopted a year later, but then sadly returned to no fault of his own in 2007. He was returned with Rusty and they are very close; they love to eat together and share a pigloo. They're used to young children, being socialized, and are very well handled. Rusty is especially sweet and gentle.

ADOPTED! Amber is the lone girl available for adoption. She was born in January 2006 (est.), and is a beautiful red agouti and white short hair. She is a petite, sweet girl who can be a bit shy at first. She was removed from a petstore by animal control officers due to overcrowding and severe neglect. Poor girl!

ADOPTED! Rascal is a cute neutered boy, which means he can be adopted to a home with a lady pig. He was born in the rescue on 5/13/06 and he is a happy, laid back boy.

ADOPTED! Elliot (L) is a handsome red short hair born in approx. November 2005. He's bonded to dear ADOPTED! Isaac (R). Elliot is a very sweet guy who was dropped off at a local vet because his family was overwhelmed with guinea pigs. He can be a cute grumpy pig at times, but is generally very sweet and full of personality. Isaac came to the rescue in a sad state medically, but has been fixed right up by the caring rescue folk. He is one of my favorite pigs I've ever featured. This is such a handsome pair!

ADOPTED! Kody (L) is a cute teddy guinea pig who was born in the rescue on 5/20/06. His mom was bought to the rescue by humane officers from a very sad situation. Lucky Kody never had to know that life, but he hasn't known a forever home! Poor boy. He's a very personable boy who must be adopted with his friend ADOPTED! Jack (R). Jack was born in approximately January 2006, and he's another one of the pigs who came in from the petstore seize. He's a very sweet boy who gets along well with other boy pigs--especially Kody!

ADOPTED! Snickers (L) and ADOPTED! Pongo (R) are an opposites attract type pair. Snickers is a laid back boar who was born in the rescue on 5/13/06. He likes lap time and is always up for watching TV with you. Pongo is a cute guinea cow who is very high energy; he loves to run around as much he likes to cuddle.

NY-Craigslist-Two boars & four babies

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

POST DELETED. Manhattan, NY: Two ads for the same piggies, but they have different pics so I'm featuring them both. Two adorable seven month old boars, tricolor kiddos, and four babies, sex not specified, available in three weeks once weaned. Disclaimer at the bottom reassures me that this isn't a br33der, let me know if I'm wrong.

PA-Chester County SPCA-Four guinea pigs

Chester County SPCA in PA is, according to its website, the largest registered non-profit animal welfare organization in Chester County. Here's a page with information on volunteering at this shelter. They've got positions for people under the age of 18, so this could be a great opportunity to help homeless animals, and your college applications!

ADOPTED! Snowflake is a beautiful young sow, looking for a place to settle by winter. No Wire Floors! There's a bumblefoot danger. And Joan Crawford would not approve.

ADOPTED! Pickle is a small, young male, a new petfinder ad confirms it.

ADOPTED! Pepper is a smart looking small, young male, as confirmed by a new petfinder post.

ADOPTED! Kiara is a cute young abby girl.

PA-Jefferson County SPCA-Baby piggie

Jefferson County SPCA is the only no-kill shelter in the area, and they have an amazingly cute piggie available for adoption.

LISTING REMOVED. Bing is a baby pig who was listed as a girl when s/he was dropped off, but the shelter hasn't verified the sex yet. Oh, and s/he is adorable.

Here is a video of another Bing, a famous piggie who has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He has brought joy to thousands, and teaches some GP basics in an adorable, family friendly way.

NJ-Friends of Homeless Animals-two piggies

Friends of Homeless Animals is a foster based rescue in Northern NJ, and they have two new pigs available for adoption.

ADOPTED! Callie is a cute four month old sow. She is a crested calico who is very sweet.

ADOPTED! Daggott is a year old, neutered, multicolored texel guinea pig. So pretty much the perfect boy then? Can be paired with a girl, past adolescence, wow!

PA-Craigslist-Skinny Pig

LISTING REMOVED. Philadelphia, PA: Of all the guinea pigs not to rehome on Craigslist, skinnies and baldwins probably top the list. A skinny being rehomed for reasonable adoption fee, can get cage for separate adoption fee. Uh oh. She looks young. The poster bought her from a petstore because the skinny was going to be fed to a sn@ke. Please read the link "social cause marketing below" to see a great summary of the problems with doing this.

PA-Tails of Hope Pet Adoptions-Two Pigs

Another confusing Petfinder listing. I'll leave it to those of you who fall in love with the picture to sort this out. Tails of Hope Pet Adoptions' Petfinder page links to Circle of Love Adoptions, so I guess they're going through a name change, not quite sure. If anyone knows what the story is I'll update this. But, on to the fun stuff: piggies!

This listing is for ADOPTED! "Morgan," but there are two piggies pictured and no sex specified. Do a pregnancy watch. They're described as tame and fun, and it goes without saying they're cuties:

PA-Humane Society of Somerset County-Two pigs

This post is a bit confusing to me, so double check with the shelter over the phone or in person about specifics.

The Humane Society of Somerset County has two piggie kids available for adoption. LISTING REMOVED. Mommy and Stewart are two pigs described as "female," but I've not known Stewart to be a female name. Maybe that's some north of the Mason-Dixon line business to which I'm not privy. Also, lol at this bio line, "we do not make any noise." Guess I don't have guinea pigs. Maybe some rare mammal bird. These two might not be making noise because they're scared...anyway, they're cute:
