NY-Craigslist-Young Sow

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Upper East Side, NY: Young black sow (few months old) named Amy needs new home. She's very nice, doesn't bite, "would be good for a child and family." I see this so often. Why do people think single adults can't have pets? Poster is asking a negotiable rehoming fee of $100 to "reimburse what [she] ha[s] spent." Eff ensuring the pig's safety, she lost cash on this thing! Comes with "large" cage, water bottle, a bunch of other supplies.

PA-Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue-Two Boars

Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue located just outside of Pittsburgh, PA has two new boars available for adoption. And one of them is the biggest guinea pig in the world!

ADOPTED! Twix is roughly the size of Gamera and is working on a campaign against Hummers. He is a young gentleman piggy, and is black and red. Twix and Skittles are very bonded, and Twix is the more laid back of the two. Picture two of Twix:

ADOPTED! Skittles is a cute, precocious adorable piggy who is always on the watch for food. He is quite bonded with Twix, and is the more active of the two.

PA-Judge's Park-Four more GPs

Judge's Park is a great, small rescue that has a number of different species of animals available for adoption. They're always in need of help, so check out their link to see what you can do to help homeless animals in PA!

ADOPTED! Patches is a young girl thought to be born in May. Patches was evicted from her apartment by the landlord, and now she needs a forever home that allows her on the lease! She is very sweet, though more shy than her bonded friend, Jasmine. They are super skittish, but have gotten used to lap time and now love it. They need someone who will help them continue on their path to being cuddlers.

ADOPTED! Jasmine is an amazingly beautiful abby girl from the same background as Patches. She is a sweet, vocal, and curious girl. Still, she and Patches are getting over being skittish and their fear of humans, so they do need an adopter willing to give them time and patience.

ADOPTED! Caeser is a young, medium-sized boar who is almost all black with a few barely noticeable brown hairs. The rescue estimates his birth month as March of this year. He is a calm, quiet, laid back pig who loves to have his face rubbed. He must be adopted with Marcus.

ADOPTED! Marcus is a baby, just born in November of this year. He's reddish brown with white patches and a whorl on his face. As a baby he has had no handling, so he is very skittish with people and still needs tsome time to get used to them. He must be adopted with Caeser.

LISTING REMOVED. Scranton, PA: I have an ambivalent reaction to this ad. Poster took her sister's guinea pig when sister moved to an apartment that didn't allow guinea pigs, so the guinea pig didn't have to go to the SPCA. They're charging a suitable adoption fee for the pig and all his supplies (cagetoosmall). But they advocate giving the guinea pig to a child age five or up, with the perk of teaching the kid responsibility. I don't know how many pigs wind up neglected or rehomed because of this theory. Also, it worries me in general that shelters have such bad reps. Obviously it is not ideal, but good shelters have a quality screening process in place and a relationship with rescues. Every shelter is different though, and sometimes pigs can pick up germs or be scared by the other animals, etc. Alls I'm saying is if you're informed about the *small animal* euthanasia rate at your local shelter, it might not be the worst thing to surrender your animal there, versus passing them off blindly (not to say that's what this poster is doing). Anyway, look how cute!

NY-GPAN-Bonded young sows

Brookfield, NY: A new listing on the Guinea Pig Adoption Network. Rose and Clover are bonded girls estimated to be one year old. One is a shorthair, one is (I think) an abby. One is black and white and one is brown and white. No known health problems. They're rehoming reason should be a big caution for people wanting to get their kids GPs for the holidays (or any day)--the poster found out that the kids were too young to hold the piggies, and so they don't get much cuddling or attention. They are curious, healthy girls who deserve more attention from someone prepared to care for them their whole lives.
