NJ-North Jersey Guinea Pig and Hamster Rescue

Due to increased time commitments, I am no longer going to be able to update past entries of some of the larger rescues such as Have-A-Heart and NJGPHR. Once a week or so I will update the herd of the respective rescues.

A n o t h e r
major New Jersey guinea pig rescue is the North Jersey Guinea Pig and Hamster Rescue. This rescue focuses on education and adoption, and houses its small animals in a network of private homes. They currently have a call out for bedding donations (non cedar or pine) and foster home volunteers. Contact carlahcpa@aol.com if you can help with either.

H e r e
are links to all of their guinea pigs currently on Petfinder. They come young and old, short hair and long. All are in need of forever homes.

A n d because its my blog, I get to choose a few of my favorites to feature.

ADOPTED! Gimli is possibly my favorite guinea pig on all of Petfinder. He looks like a stuffed animal made by Most Adorable co. He is a five month old abby who was abandoned at a shelter. His family didn't want him any more. Ridiculous. The poor boy is being treated for malnutrition, and will be ready for adoption soon. Can you give him a better home than his last one?

ADOPTED! This picture is from Mina's listing; it's of her and one of her sisters. I haven't been a GPfan for long, but I look at a lot of pictures of them-and I have never seen one, let alone two, with this color pattern. It's so beautiful too. She's three years old and crested. Her rehoming was a sad situation, for both her, her former owner, and the other five guinea pigs she was surrendered with. Please adopt her and and one of her sisters.

ADOPTED! Giorgio is a beautiful six month old abby/peruvian who was given up because his owners had too many guinea pigs -- poor Giorgio. He can be adopted with his father or brother, or for a lonely boar needing a friend. With his coat he'll need gentle brushing -- this can be a nice bonding experience with your pet.

PA-Piggie Lovers Inc. Guinea Pig Rescue

Piggie Lovers Inc. Guinea Pig Rescue has two very handsome new boars available for adoption!

These two beautiful bonded boars, ADOPTED! Hamlet and Rothbart, are now available for adoption. They are brohters, and about 5-6 months old. Hamlet has a red stripe on his belly, while Rothbart is a solid black. I think they are both so sleek and handsome. And Rothbart has a crest! They are sweet vocal boys who don't like to be picked up, but they do like being held. They can give nibbles, especially if your finger is looking a bit carrot-ish. This means they probably wouldn't be suitable for a household with younger children.

T h i s c u t i e named ADOPTED! Catherine is ready and excited for her forever home. She's a young girl too, eight months old, and has an "only child" personality. She's not very friendly with other piggies, and even tries to nip them (I did that to my sister until I was nine!).
She does love people though, and attention, and FOOD-you can tell because she starts wheeking. This vocal girl would work with a neutered male-some nice boar for her to call her own.

PA-Women's Humane Society

This is my 50th post since I started a week ago. Crazy!

The Women's Humane Society is located in Bensalem, PA, and it was the first animal shelter founded in the United States. It offers a bunch of really amazing programs and relies entirely on donations and veterinary fees to fund its programs. Like many shelters, they euthanize because of space and health reasons.

They also have two guinea pigs available for adoption. Just because they don't have photos
doesn't mean they aren't sweet and in need of a home!

ADOPTED! Furball is a one year old sow with a short white, brown, and black coat. She is friendly and good with kids (but remember, a young child should never be the sole caretaker of a guinea pig, and the guinea pig should never be kept in the young child's room). She is medium-sized and described as "slightly active." In a forever home I bet she'll be much more energetic.

ADOPTED! Chopper is a one year old medium sized male. He has a short brown and black coat. He is friendly, good with kids, and also "slightly active." It's amazing how a forever home will bring out the popcorning!

The popcorn link sends you to a cute video that is not mine. Another cute video that is not mine is "The Guinea Pig Way." And a third cute but not mine video is "Our three guinea pigs fighting for a cucumber." All three are family safe.

PA-Piggie Lovers Inc. Guinea Pig Rescue

Piggie Lovers Inc. Guinea Pig Rescue has four adorable new pigs available for adoption!

ADOPTED! Lucy and Ethel are a pair of bonded sweeties who are less than a year old. Lucy (the tri-color abby who looks like GL famous Mitzy to me) is the more adventurous of the two, she comes to the food, while Ethel waits for the food to come to her.

The two sows are well attuned to the sound of the fridge opening or plastic bags rustling. Lucy is a 100% lap piggie, but Ethel doesn't calm down until she's settled safely in the lap.

And look at these handsome boys. These four are like
the homecoming royal party.

ADOPTED! Telouis and Edgar (first off, best names ever), are bonded boys a bit over a year old. Telouis, pictured on the left, is a chubby little boy. He's also the more people friendly of the two -- he will come right up to you for veggie goodies.

Edgar is more reserved, but not opposed to stealing Telouis's food. They are both very vocal, and are that amazing type of guineas: belly pigs. Rubbing a piggie's belly is a very special feeling.
