ADOPTED!
Snickers is a guinea pig in Central Jersey who is in desperate need of a forever home. He's being dumped because the children in his house are bored with him. He loves attention, doesn't bite, and is very friendly. He comes with a big cage (I doubt it's big enough), pigloo, alfalfa (only appropriate if he's young), and some pellets. Help this dear boar out.

NJ-Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue

NOTE: DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS AND THE LARGE NUMBER OF HAVE A HEART GUINEA PIGS, HAH ENTRIES WILL NO LONGER BE RETROACTIVELY UPDATED. MY APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS CAUSES. THE HAH WEBSITE WILL OFFER THE MOST UP TO DATE INFORMATION.

Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue is an amazing rescue with hundreds of guinea pigs in foster homes all up and down the east coast (NJ/PA/MD/DE). They are always in desperate need of more foster homes. Contact them if you want to help this enormous rescue organization save even more guinea pigs.

While my goal will be to one day feature every guinea pig Have-A-Heart has for adoption, it's such an enormous task I've got to break it up. I've copied links here for every Have-A-Heart guinea pig in New Jersey posted on Petfinder as of Halloween, 2007. There are so many other guinea pigs in other states, and I'll be posting those shortly. But if you fall in love with a far away guinea, remember: it's worth a drive to keep them alive! So a'la Furry Friends Guinea Pig Rescue, here are my top three New Jersey Have-a-Heart guineas:

#3 Most Wanted NJ Have-A-Heart Guinea: Violet. She is such a beauty! She's been in the rescue since August, and I've had a guinea crush on her since then! I want to see her little face poking out of my stocking this Christmas - slashnevergiveanimalsasgifts.

#2 Most Wanted NJ Have-A-Heart Guinea: LISTING REMOVED-->Cookie, who is bonded with the also adorable Flyer and Squirrelly. They are all 1 1/2 years old sows, and were dumped at the local animal shelter. They've been with the rescue since December of 2006. That's far too long for such amazing guineas to not have a forever home! And look, she's like a guinea Seinfeld would love.

#1 Most Wanted NJ Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig(s): ADOPTED!! Xyloma and Tess! Tess is Xyloma's daughter, and this beautiful team has been waiting for their forever home for two years. The hell? These two are so wonderful. Xyloma came in to the rescue quite pregnant. She is used to cats, dogs, and kids. They're small sweethearts looking for love.

So I let Mr. AdoptAGuineaPig pick out his favorite, and he chose one of the beautiful abbys of the Alice, Betsy, and Claire listing. He writes: Unfortunately this beautiful pillow of girl along with two other silver & white abbys (silver!) were being housed outside. She seems pretty swell and fluffy.

POST DELETED.
The ad in this post has been reposted. West Milford, North Jersey-missexing a male led to five adorable baby guinea pigs. Please check out the sexing page on GuineaLynx to help prevent this common occurrence. Boys and girls available, she would like some of them to go to homes together. Sex them to make sure you know what you're getting in to. And it better not be br33ding.

LISTING EXPIRED.
The third listing in this post has been updated and reposted on Craigslist again. Conklin, NY-pickup or delivery to anywhere in Suffolk County.

Three guinea pigs, two females one male, being rehomed. Cage is included with guinea pigs (pictured lower left) and has dividers to keep the boar and sows separate. The lower right picture is the baby sow, top left are the sows, top right is adult male.

PA-Glenmoore Small Animal Rescue-boar

Glenmoore Small Animal Rescue is a foster-network rescue in its fourth year. It is always looking for more foster homes!

They also have a gorgeous guinea pig named ADOPTED! Brutus. He is healthy, happy, gentle and sweet-sounds perfect! He's in a cat heavy foster home, but stays cool as a cucumber. He's a year old, wonderfully vocal, and absolutely loves his veggies!

104

PA-Furry Friends Guinea Pig Rescue

A little bit about myself: I live in Maryland and have three guinea pigs, as well as two fosters, and one sanctuary pig (permanent foster). Esme and Lisbon were adopted from Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue, which is the same organization for which I foster (Gypsy and Rollo) and care for a sanctuary pig (Peaches, pictured at right). I am a Petfinder addict, and one day I saw Sophie (then named Sparks) and I fell in love. My awesome friend Shari drove me three hours + to pick her up in Wallingford, PA from the Furry Friends Guinea Pig Rescue. One of the most amazing things about this rescue is a) that the director is really nice and all around great, but b) all of the guinea pigs are there in the director's house and they are all amazing looking. I wanted to leave with 8 more guinea pigs, but Mr. AdoptAGuineaPig would frown on that. So the below is the start of my featuring FFGPR guinea pigs-think of it as a sort of Amazon Wishlist.

MY TOP THREE FAVORITE FFGPR GUINEAS:

Number Three: ADOPTED! Sophie is a beautiful guinea pig who was three months old when she first arrived at the rescue. Her family rehomed her because Sophie was a nibbler, and they had young children. Since being in the rescue Sophie has become much more docile, but she should still go to a loving, patient home. And she has a CREST!

Number Two:
ADOPTED! Davy is so intriguing looking. I think he looks like a dadaist guinea pig. This boy is a year and some change, and is a dominant fellow. But look at that "who me?" face!

Number One: ADOPTED! Lola (see also Lola versus Powerman and the Moneyground, Part One for more awesomeness), is a guinea pig I have loved for months from e-far. She's bonded with two girls who I will feature in time, ADOPTED! Bridgette and ADOPTED! Rachel, She is just over a year old and such a sweetheart. Thus, I will post three pictures of her.

NY-Adirondack Save-A-Stray

LISTING REMOVED. Adirondack Save-A-Stray is a no-kill shelter run entirely by volunteers and dependent entirely on donations. And they have a whole rack of gorgeous guinea pigs! Adopt one today. Or wait a while to educate yourself about their needs and then bring one home to a prepared home.

98

PA-Montgomery County SPCA-Abington

I've featured some other guinea pigs who are staying at the Montgomery County SPCA, but their photos are on PetHarbor. The fellow I'm featuring in this post is on Petfinder, so he's probably gotten some more views than the others. Still, he has yet to be adopted! And this guy is too sweet to be homeless.

LISTINGS REMOVED. He is six months old and has lived on his own, or with other guys-though not uncommon, boars who bond easily with boars are valuable. Adopt this beautiful boy with a friend-guinea pigs are social creatures. He's a small guy-help him bulk up with a loving veggie diet!

NJ-Craigslist-Four Pigs

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or
go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster
to ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

POST EXPIRED. Four beautiful guinea pigs in North Jersey being dumped. Two adults (1 1/2 years old), two babies (five months old). Small adoption fee means you get the cage, food, bedding, and vitamin water (no good, don't use it). I'm in love with the black self-s/he looks so sleek and healthy.

94

PA-Humane League in Lancaster County

The Humane League in Lancaster County (Lancaster, PA), is an independent non-profit which is always looking for volunteers-they have a bunch of different opportunities. They also have three guinea pigs available for adoption!

ADOPTED!
That sweet little all brown boy is named Puff. He was given up because of allergies-poor guinea pig. And poor Claritin losing those sales. He's young and small and looking for a forever home.

ADOPTED! The young tiny baby boy next to the toilet paper roll for scale is named Cally. He was born in foster care, is just one month old, and super active. PLUS he has three brothers available for adoption too!

ADOPTED! Popcorn has such a lovely bio I'm going to repost it here: "Popcorn is a young adult guinea pig whose unique appearance is sure to win over the hearts of old and young alike." Well it won over me! And I'm early mid-twenties, so add a whole 'nother category on there.

90

PA-Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter Inc.

Cumberland Animal Shelter is in Chambersburg, PA, and holds about 80 animals. It runs two thrift stores.

LISTING REMOVED. Snowcone (a name which, for some reason, I adore), is an adult gal of medium build, who is absolutely beautiful. She was dropped off in a box outside the shelter-if you ever give up an animal to the shelter, please do it directly. They get adopted much more quickly with background information. Look at her cute little pink ears though! And those beautiful black eyes. She looks like a guinea pig an idealistic child drew.

LISTING REMOVED. Buttercup was dumped in the same box as Snowcone, and is just as cute. She's another one of those medium sized adults. Who could give these girls up?
87

NY-Lollypop Farm in Fairport-update

Remember this post? And this one? Well those faceless guinea pigs of the Lollypop Guild now have photos!

From top left to top right, bottom left to bottom right:

#1 LISTING REMOVED. Lt. Mitchel, the latest crested cutie.
#2 LISTING REMOVED. Carmel and LISTING REMOVED. Brownie.
#3 LISTING REMOVED. Foxy and LISTING REMOVED. Honey.
#4 LISTING REMOVED. PJ who fooled me-that's not a special guinea pig br33d you're seeing.
#5 LISTING REMOVED. Buddie and LISTING REMOVED. Speedie.

85

NY-EUTHANASIA ALERT-Hi-Tor Animal Care Center

ADOPTED!! Joey is an amazing guinea pig temporarily living in an overflowing shelter. As a result, he is in danger of being euthanized. It is not the fault of the fantastic shelter workers, and Joey is not an "unadoptable" guinea pig. Rather, there are too few homes for the inumerable homeless guinea pigs- a result of br33ders, pet stores, and frequent missexing. There are so many guinea pigs, and other animals, looking for a home, and it's hard to find just one cause. It is easy to find just one solution, for just one animal-open your home for adoption or fostering, and you will be saving a life.

Joey is just one year old, which means he has plenty of years left. He is cuddly and incredibly well socialized to people-Joey is a "pet buddy," so he has gone on visits to Nursing Home residents. What a sweet boy! The shelter likes him so much a staff member posted on GuineaLynx to help find this guy a home-that's awesome. Any shelter workers or volunteers who read this and want me to post about their guinea pig, or want me to post something they've written, send it to adoptaguineapig @ gmail.com.

There are also five rabbits that need to find homes ASAP at this shelter.

POST DELETED.
West Milford, North New Jersey, four guinea pigs being offered for adoption. Victor turned Victoria (check the sexing page on GuineaLynx to prevent such common occurrences), and had four pups! Two baby boys and two baby girls available for adoption. No photo, but there's no such thing as a "non-cutest being in the world" guinea pig. If you have an older guinea pig, a baby will generally bond really quickly with him or her.

NY-Petfinder Classifieds-Two Listings

LISTING REMOVED. The link for these two won't always point correctly, it's just to a search for NY and guineas in the Petfinder Classifieds. Meaning if you want any of these guineas, act fast!

Two girls, Lotsy and Piggy, in Crotson on Hudson are being rehomed because of a new infant's allergies. Piggy follows the poster around the house like a puppy; that's so cool! Like being held, give love nibbles.

Two girls in Mahopec being rehomed because of allergies. Names are Goldie and Whitey. Sweet, eat right out of hands. Confusion-the poster also says the guinea pigs are male. Clarify if these pigs are of interest.

LISTING REMOVED. In Bergen County a 3 month old guinea pig (sex not specified) is being rehomed because the poster is moving. Again, I ask, where are these people moving? And if they can't take their family pets, why move there? S/he is described as healthy and adorable. Cripes. Someone help this guinea out?

NY-Craigslist, two listings

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or
go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster
to ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

ADOPTED! (Tonawanda, near Buffalo)
Dalton is an amazing looking guinea pig. I am in love with him. There is a real danger in looking at hundreds of guinea pigs each day. I've had to desensitize myself to guinea pigs being cute. Well this guy has broken through the barrier, goodness! Guinea pigs are the best animals in the world-sweet, furry, and made for cuddling. I'll tell you, in my heart, I'm a hoarder. Each picture and story lodges itself in my arteries like bits of fat.

Back to Dalton-the poster is rehoming him (reasonable adoption fee) because he doesn't have enough time for him with school. While he's gone the house is noisy ("little ones") and so the guinea pig is timid. He comes with the cage and stand, pigloo, water bottle, food dish, left over food and pine bedding (careful now). He is a lovable guy. Someone please adopt him and post photos!

LISTING EXPIRED. (New York City) A four year old named Amelia has been through several moves and no attention. Poster wants her to go to someone who loves animals and has time and energy for her. I bet Amelia wants that too-to bad she's being given away with no mention of an adoption fee. Comes with food, bedding, cage, and an assurance of a clean bill of health. Pic will be posted soon.

75

PA-Craigslist, Delaware County, two sows

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or
go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster
to ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Guinea pigs pictured are not actual guinea pigs up for adoption, rather, they are their doppelgängers found online. Both guinea pigs are very sweet. Poster says that she loves them very much but cannot care for them. Small adoption fee.

73

NY-Animal Service League Inc.

The Animal Service League is a no-kill shelter in Rochester. They take in all sorts of animals, including guinea pigs!

ADOPTED! They have a listing on Petfinder labeled "Chloe," but it's actually for three guinea pigs: Chloe, Lola, and Sabre. Sabre has been adopted already, but I'm not sure which one he is, so I'm posting all three photos. These guinea pigs are about two and a half months old, and super cute. They're well socialized to humans, and should be adopted together. Guinea pigs can get really depressed if you break up a bonded pair.

NJ-Monmouth County SPCA

Live in Eatontown, NJ and you're looking for a guinea pig? Apparently the Monmouth County SPCA almost always has them, but they don't list them. This is going to make it practically impossible for them to get adopted. Please don't go to a br33der or a pet store-there are plenty of guinea pigs without homes, not really getting a chance. The handsome guinea posted here is MCSPCA's poster cavy, and he's already been adopted.
