LISTING REMOVED Paterson, NJ: Guinea pigs being rehomed due to a very classic story. Pregnant petstore pig, pig population balloons, a pig is backbr3d, more babies, people fell through taking the babies, and so we come to the Craigslist ad. They're thinning the herd. Let me know if this seems like intentional br33ding and I'll remove it.

Spike is a male growing long haired, Melody is I'm assuming a female. "They are both funny, friendly, and have a lot of personality." 8 months old, rehoming fee.

PA-York County SPCA-TEN guinea pigs!

York County SPCA; York, PA: Ten guinea pigs!

Ten guinea pigs were dropped off at the shelter when their owner was moving. A mother and her two litters, ages ranging from 3 weeks to six months. PREGNANCY ALERT. A link to sex guinea pigs here = Boy or Girl?

The basics, males become sexually fertile at 21 days and should be removed from their mothers at that time, females can be immediately reimpregnated after giving birth (back-br3d) and so males should be separated from females (just in general, really, unless a neuter has been performed and a two week recovery period has been followed). Female guinea pigs can be sexually mature as early as 28 days. Learn more about how two guinea pigs can balloon out of control at GuineaLynx, here.

LISTING REMOVED West York, PA: One male and one female "crazy haired" guinea pig who have been with the family for a year and a half. NJ-Friends of Homeless Animals-Nutley Two Pairs (FF/MM)

Friends of Homeless Animals of Northern New Jersey; Hawthorne, NJ: Sugar/Spice and Othello/Hamlet!

Sugar/Spice are guinea girls in a foster home in Nutley, NJ. They were rescued from the local animal shelter. As they are skittish it's preferred if people with guinea pig experience are their lucky adopters. They're adults. Donations toward their care are appreciated, and contact information is listed at their link.

Othello/Hamlet are two tragic heroes who have bonded in foster care, also in Nutley! Othello is black and white and a "long haired Abby" (I think of Abbies as medium length, so I'll mark this as both). He is eight months old. He was surrendered when the poor guy developed a bad case of mites--an easily treatable condition. He's in tip top shape now and ready for adoption. Piggy or Hamlet is a black and white American who is 1 1/2, and bonded with Othello. Good luck boys! Donations toward their care are appreciated. Contact information available at their link.

PA-CompAnimals-Four babies, Three Adults, one female two males

CompAnimals, Landenberg, PA: ADOPTED! Four babies, ADOPTED! Sweetie, & ADOPTED! Martin, and & ADOPTED! Whiskers!

Two females and two males, seven weeks old as of today (note, male guinea pigs are sexually fertile as of three weeks old). They are pretty friendly once being held, though they can be shy at first. They were rescued from a hoarding situation in NJ.

"Sweetie definitely lives up to her name!" This cutie girl was turned in when her family underwent a move. She is a gentle pig who enjoys being held and pet. She could do well as a first guinea pig for Gentle children (don't forget, parents as primary caretakers at all times).

Martin! Poor guy was surrendered to the shelter when the family dog attempted to break into his cage. Try this link: ( Cheaper, Larger Cages ) for dog proofing suggestions. Martin is a large pig who does not get along with other male pigs, so the rescue suggests getting him a bunny as a friend. The idea that bunnies and guinea pigs can be housed together is a GUINEA PIG MYTH. Guinea pigs can contract bordatella from bunnies, as well as other diseases they aren't traditionally exposed to, they can have a difficult time competing for food, and the stronger leg muscles of the rabbit can put the guinea pig at risk for injuries (they might be unexplained if they don't happen in front of you). Why not neuter him and pair him with your female? Or if you are able to offer him a lot of attention, maybe he is a good pig to be a single.

Whiskers is a guy who comes from the same situation as the above. I'm going to offer the same bio as above, and disclaimer about the bunny. This is a common misconception that bunnies and guinea pigs make good friends. I presently have a foster who came from sharing a cage with a bunny, and she had scabs on her skin, hidden from by her fur, from where the bunny had been biting her! She was also vastly malnourished because of competing with the guinea pig for food. Do Whiskers a favor, and give him another shot at companionship with a guinea friend. Madison and Hailey are a beautiful, unique pair of girls about a year of age. Madison is on the left and is a teddy mix (look of a teddy but fur not as coarse), and Haily is the abby/short hair mix on the right with the gorgeous mark underneath her eye. Madison is curious and loves attention, while Haily is warming up to people and is a little more skittish. They are very sweet once they warm up to new people.

Willow and Brooke are a pair of adorable bonded girls who have that rare but wonderful label "extra large." They're around 10-11 months old. They love food, and eating hay until they fall asleep! They're vocal, demanding, large and in charge, and all they need is a forever home willing to cater to them.

Niles and Alfred are bonded six/seven month old male guinea pigs. Alfred has a very long "rooster tail"! I've always wanted a guinea pig with one of these. They're very laid back, but get excited when people are near their cage. Niles is super friendly and easy to pick up, and Alfred loves lap time and cuddles. They're both big popcorners. They love veggie time, and afterward they know how to re-lax. They pancake flat on their bellies and stick their feet out. Their bio has even more information on these adorable boys.

Archie and Alister are bonded two month old babies who came to the rescue in a group of nine pigs, and stuck together the whole time. They are available for adoption May 5th. These are rowdy boys who are active, love attention and hunting for veggies! Alister (the crested boy) is a handsome boy and he knows it. He is going to grow into such a looker!

PA-Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue-Pigs from 2007!

I have been extremely negligent in posting Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue updates. They have been handling a massive hoarder and cruelty case. The saddest thing is that this is by a repeat offender. I'm going to link to a page with more information, but there are graphic photos of the results of animal cruelty there. Be warned. You can find information on how to help at the home page of the rescue. INFO ON THE CRISIS PIGS: WARNING, GRAPHIC AND SAD!

One of the most helpful ways to ease the burden on Have-A-Heart is to adopt one of their guinea pigs! They have hundreds of healthy guinea pigs of all ages, br33ds, and colors! Here is their complete pet list.

And there are some guinea pigs who have been with the rescue since 2007! Please consider these pigs first.

They've been waiting for a forever home
for what feels like forever!
