Did you know...

that just like those poor puppies, guinea pigs in pet stores also can come from mills? And that someone who br33ds even a few litters a year, then sells (or gives away) the pigs online or to a store is still guaranteeing the death of a pig in a shelter?

I say what may seem a harsh statement because there are many, many more guinea pigs then there are homes. And so if you have found this blog, please don't get your guinea pig from a petstore, 4-her, school br33ding program, or someone who has otherwise contributed to the guinea pig population on purpose, because there are hundreds of guinea pigs posted below who are in desperate need of a forever home.

Adopting a guinea pig listed on this website is saving a life!

They're counting on you!

I had no idea! I have never seen a guinea pig in a shelter or humane society where I live, so I guess it never occurred to me that they might be in the same situation as a dog or cat.

Thanks for getting the info out!

Thank you Cathi!!

For others-your local shelter, even if they don't have a guinea pig at the time, may be able to help you find one. There may be a local rescue, and there's always Craigslist and the newspaper. Beware of br33ders though! Their ads can seem similar.

What a great site this is. It is certainly informative and I wish we had a similar one in CA.

I had no idea there were so many pigs up for adoption in my area before finding this site.

Thanks for all of your hard work, for saving so many lives, and for making people aware that they don't have to support petstores in order to find that perfect piggy companion.

Blargh. I think I just commented about 50 times thinking it didn't go through.

Sorry, GP!

A huge thank you to this website for helping find so many pigs homes and making a convenient place for their future homes to look for them!

We found our little girl Pinky on this site and could not have found a better match for one of our neutered boys. They are a pair made in heaven.

Thank you for helping us all find each other!

Thank you for all your hard work on this site. You're doing a wonderful thing, helping homeless guinea pigs find their forever homes.

I love all the additional information (and resources) on how to care for guinea pigs. I especially like that you try to post as much info as possible on each pig.

Hey, I'm from Guinea Pig Home Forum.
I thank GP for getting the word out. I have a precious guinea pig that I got from a shelter, who had obviously suffered from neglect.
If you can't find a local shelter, try petfinder.com or craigslit.com, but please do not resort to a br33der or pet store.
I also encourage everyone to do their research before getting a new animal, and make sure you have a local exotics vet.
Good luck to everyone searching for a cavy!

Hi GP,
Great site!

I'm in NYC and my cavy (a rescue!) passed away a while back and I was hoping to donate her old things to a shelter or to a person adopting an animal. I sadly can't take on a new animal because I am going back to school. I have lots of bedding, 3 igloo/houses, water bottles, and a cage. Any help finding a useful way to give these things to anyone in need would be much appreciated.

Thanks! Juliet

Hi Juliet,

First off, I'm so sorry for your loss!

I'm not actively maintaining the site anymore, so I don't have the latest news on who's doing what. I'd recommend posting on GuineaLynx http://www.guinealynx.info/forums/ with your very generous offer.

If that's not possible, and you're willing to travel a little bit, I would really recommend donating to the Friends of Homeless Animal Rescue: http://members.petfinder.com/~NJ437/fohawebsiteindex.html They're in N. NJ but they're great. That's what I can think of off the top of my head.
